Your home should be the safest, healthiest place in the whole world.  Here are easy things you can do to make your family safer and your home healthier.  And good for the earth and everyone else, too.

1. Get the real dirt on clean. Educate yourself about what you bring into your home at  www.householdproducts.nlm.nih.gov/products.htm

2. Clear out the toxics. Get rid of the nasty stuff in your home. Responsibly. Your local waste collection service has guidelines for proper household hazardous waste disposal, and collection sites for things like paint, batteries, and cleaners. Whatever you do, please don’t toss this stuff in the garbage.

3. Welcome healthy into your home. Carefully consider everything that crosses your doorstep.  Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Choose truly clean cleaners:  nontoxic, natural, biodegradable, concentrated, and hypoallergenic, for starters. Choose products from companies that walk their talk.  Some of them have been around for a long time, doing business with integrity and real commitment to healthy people and a healthy planet.
  • Use essential oils instead of air fresheners..
  • Choose floors and furnishings made of recycled, non-toxic and renewable resources and healthier low VOC paint, now widely available.
